Amon-Ra St. Brown remembers the wideouts taken before him.

2 min read

Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the brightest and most talented young stars in the NFL today. The Detroit Lions wide receiver has been getting better and better, but he hasn’t forgotten about his past. During an episode of Hard Knocks last year, he admitted that he remembers all the wide receivers drafted before him. He’s studied it so much that he knows them off the top of his head.

St. Brown recently appeared on NFL Total Access and was asked about the wideouts taken in front of him. He responded and said, “I actually still think about it. I actually have my goals written down in my notebook what I want to achieve every year. So, what I want to achieve this year going into the season my personal goals, and then right below that, I have the 16 receivers written down where they went to college right below that. And so I read that whole list three times before I go to practice every day. It’s something I’ll never forget. Something I make sure I’m always reminded of.”

Anybody that might be interested in knowing some big names that were on the list are in luck. The top two are Cincinnati Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase, followed closely by Miami Dolphins Jaylen Waddle. While those guys are at the top of the list in terms of the wide receiver market, other names include Elijah Moore and Amari Rodgers. Two guys that have already switched teams. The remainder of the players on this list are as follows: Kadarius Toney, Rashod Bateman, D’Wayne Eskridge, Rondale Moore, Dez Fitzpatrick, Nico Collins, Dyami Brown, Josh Palmer, Tutu Atwell, Anthony Schwartz, and Terrace Marshall Jr.  Oh, and we can’t forget about DeVonta Smith on the Philadelphia Eagles. Outside of Smith, Chase, and Waddle, it’s hard to argue that anybody else should have been drafted above St. Brown.

I think that it’s safe to say St. Brown has been a draft success. He had over 90 receptions in his rookie campaign and followed it up last season by racking up 106 catches for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns. That season helped him make it into the Pro Bowl for the first time. He has a total of 196 receptions in his first two NFL campaigns, putting him in a tie with Justin Jefferson and Michael Thomas for the most in league history in those first two years.

St. Brown also went on to talk about the rookies that Detroit is bringing in this upcoming season. He said that he believes Detroit has done a great job of drafting in recent memory and is super excited to work with a few of these new guys. In particular, he mentioned running back Jahmyr Gibbs and tight end Sam LaPorta. St. Brown will lead a receiver core that should now be improved once Jameson Williams returns from suspension. It’ll also have a solid number-one option with LaPorta at tight end if he gets through the offseason strong. Then, they recreated their thunder-and-lightning backfield by drafting Gibbs and signing David Montgomery.
