Inzaghi’s Inter crowned Italian champions

2 min read

Last night Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan won their twentieth Scudetto, and boy did they deserve it. The Milan derby is always a highly anticipated affair, but the prospect of Inter winning the title versus bitter rivals AC Milan made this game a must watch for football fans across the globe!

It’s been known for weeks, months even, that Inter could potentially win the title versus AC at their shared home, but most didn’t see the stars aligning to make it possible. But lo and behold, under the lights at the San Siro anticipation was building. As the two sides lined up side by side to shake hands tension was escalating. The Milanista’s creating a cauldron like atmosphere inside, understanding that their side had to pick up a point to avoid embarrassment. Game on.

Once the action kicked off it was clear that Inter were the side who were going to dominate the game. With AC struggling to escape their own box in the first quarter of an hour, it wasn’t long until a goal came. Francesco Acerbi’s header putting the league leaders ahead after he rose above the rest to meet Benjamin Pavard’s flick on from a corner. 1-0, advantage to the Nerazzuri. Inter threatened to double their lead before the break with both Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram missing golden opportunities.

These chances were forgotten early in the second half though, with Marcus Thuram’s thumping effort finding the back of the net to make it 2-0 after he’d danced away from multiple defenders to create the room for his effort. The Scudetto was all but theirs. With thirty to play the San Siro began to fill with smoke as Inter continued to control the game. The title was their’s if they kept calm.

With ten to play Fikayo Tomori was an unlikely source of hope for AC as his header found the back of the net to make it 2-1. It would only be a consolation for Stefano Pioli and his side however. The game was gone and the players knew that as tempers began to flare. Theo Hernández, Denzel Dumfries, and Davide Calabria all saw red as a result of this. The AC fans will be wishing their players could’ve shown that fight in game rather than in the fashion they did.

This result will be ingrained in Milan history forever. AC Milan 1-2 Inter Milan. Inter Scudetto winners versus Milan. The twentieth Scudetto was always destined for the Nerazzuri this campaign. Truly a night to remember.
