Philadelphia Eagles lose third straight game.

The Philadelphia Eagles were riding high atop the NFC Conference just a few weeks ago. That’s all changed now. They’ve lost three straight games to other NFC playoff contenders, including the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Seattle Seahawks. This has forced them to do some soul-searching; only time will tell if this can help them.

Seattle beat them most recently in Prime Time, and quarterback Jalen Hurts came into the game with an illness. However, you can’t use that as an excuse, considering Drew Lock was starting under centre in Seattle for the injured Geno Smith. This loss was the third straight game that the Eagle’s offense was held under 20 points, with Hurts noticeably having another lousy night throwing the football, something that’s become a concerning trend lately.

When talking to Hurts about the consecutive losses, he said, “I’ve been talking about execution all year, being on the same page, everyone being on the same page. We didn’t execute. I don’t think we’re, we’re all, we’re committed enough. Just got to turn it around. You know, it’s a challenge that we have to embrace. Just continue to see it through.” Somebody asked Hurts what he meant by saying the team wasn’t committed enough, and he didn’t respond positively to that question. He said, “Commitment. I don’t have a dictionary on me now. I don’t know how else to say that.” 

Hurts knows more than anybody what it means to say something like that to the media, and it could be a way for himself and others to snap out of this funk they’re in. Perhaps they are starting to feel like they can win every game without putting much effort in, just waiting until the playoffs to start trying. Maybe that’s what’s caused the losing streak, and perhaps that’s what Hurts is referring to. At the end of the day, though, this is all speculation, and nobody knows what’s happening behind those doors except the players.

In this most recent showing, Hurts threw for just 143 total passing yards and threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter. The second one would have resulted in them kicking a field goal if he hadn’t thrown that ball, yet they turned it over, and Seattle went down to win the ball game later. There’s no question that the Eagles are still one of the most talented teams in the NFL. The problem is that they keep underperforming. They’ve been struggling all season long but have squeaked out many of their games early on, so they were 10-1. However, people knew that their bad play would eventually catch up if they didn’t start playing their best football soon enough, and that’s precisely what happened. Lucky for them, San Francisco also lost three straight games earlier in the year, and they’ve bounced back just fine. Philadelphia should be as well.
