As with any season, the thrills and spills of the intensifying Premier League action have a direct impact on how well each of our Fantasy Football teams perform and therefore our overall moods.
We are now getting right into the midst of a frantic period in the build up to Christmas, where the games begin to stack up and players start picking up niggles here and there, leading to serious managerial decisions being made to ensure we don’t fall behind in the standings.
So, if you are stuck on which players to transfer in and out ahead of a crucial festive period where the games are aplenty, our helpful guide below will give you a good indication on who to select should you be faced with an unwanted injury crisis and start feeling that one of your Wildcard’s needs to be utilised.
Goalkeepers (1st to 5th)
Very few people would expect to see Manchester United’s No.1 in this list but Andre Onana has actually kept the second-most clean sheets in this division this season so far (5). While United have not been at their best, they have actually carved out some good results and shown defensive stability at the back, especially during November where they were one of the division’s form sides. Can he keep it up? Well, that’s the 47.2m dollar question…

Defenders (1st to 5th)
No surprises to see Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier top the pile for the highest points-scoring defenders. The Magpies full-back is joint-level in the Premier League assists chart with 7 and has been a mainstay in a backline that’ve only conceded 14 goals this term – only Arsenal (11) have conceded less.
At £7m, the England man isn’t cheap, however, so looking elsewhere for a more budget-friendly option will bring you directly to Joachim Andersen. The Eagles linchpin is available for a snip at just £5.2m and has accrued 63 points this season, with Palace impressing defensively (19 goals conceded) and he plays practically every minute for the south London side.

Midfielders (1st to 5th)
Mo Salah, Heung-min Son and Bukayo Saka were always going to rank highly in the midfielders category and they have each been typically impressive this season, but it is Brentford’s £7.1m man Bryan Mbeumo who has been somewhat of a surprise package this term.
With Ivan Toney serving a long-term suspension, the 24-year-old has been deployed up front with Yoane Wissa and has made up for the shortfall by netting six goals and providing three assists. Definitely a player worth considering if you’re on the lookout for a midfielder who plays in a more advanced position for his club.

Forwards (1st to 5th)
Erling Haaland continues to prove his talent has no restrictions in the Premier League and is yet again top of the scorers tree heading towards Christmas with 14 goals in 14 games. At an eye-watering £14m, he is the game’s most expensive player and, let’s face it, you’ve all already got him in your team and most likely wearing the captain’s armband.
Ollie Watkins has been in scintillating form for Aston Villa and is proving worthy of his hefty £8.4m price tag, though if you’re struggling to allocate the budget required to capture the England international, Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke could be the perfect answer. The £6.5m man has notched seven goals and an assist so far this season and is a pivotal cog in the Cherries’ machine. When they do find the back of the net, it’s often Solanke’s name on the scoresheet.
