Will Levis odds skyrocket after reddit post trends

Everybody has been sitting around wondering who might be drafted number one overall. The Carolina Panthers themselves might not even know at this point. However, one rumour that popped up on Reddit has bookmakers skyrocketing odds for one player in particular, Will Levis.

Bryce Young is still the overall favourite to get selected first overall by the Panthers, though Levis saw his value go through the roof recently. A trending post on Reddit stated that Levis is currently going around and telling his friends and family that he will be drafted by Carolina with the top overall selection. There was no other source or other statement made on the post. Just a single sentence was all that was necessary apparently. Ever since this post started to get trending, the odds for him to be selected first overall went from +4000 all the way to +400 in minutes. Nobody knows who is running this Reddit account, but it was created just six days ago.

Some sportsbooks have dropped those odds since then, though it’s certainly interesting that these groups jumped so heavily on a rumour. If this many oddsmakers decided to make a chance, there might actually be some truth to these rumours, just not in the way that was described. DraftKings in particular changed up their betting odds after digging some more into the post. They now have Bryce Young at -1600 and Will Levis back down to +700.  Though still, Levis was +5000 on DraftKings just one day earlier.

A few major bookies spoke out today about these odds changing and the whole story that appeared on Reddit. DraftKings said, “Given the nature of the draft, we drastically cut the price based on this action and eventually came to a price where the bets stopped. We are still seeing some small bets trickle through at the current price, but the speculation is all the action was off the back of a Reddit post.”

Caesars Entertainment, another sportsbook, said, “There’s definitely been an uptick in the number of bets on Will Levis this morning, but no huge bets.” There not being any massive bets could be a sign that there’s not an insider getting an edge in the competition. It likely means that the story currently has no value to it and people aren’t trusting it that heavily.

Now, Young is the consensus betting favourite and has been touted as the best quarterback and player in this draft class for months. The Panthers trading a lot of capital to jump up to number one, just to pass up on him and take Levis would be a shock to many. Especially considering that Levis is ranked as the fourth best signal caller in this ridiculously stacked quarterback class. Even ESPNs Todd McShay didn’t give any value to Levis potentially going with the number one overall pick. McShay said, “Young is already their guy at that number one spot.” This could certainly be a wild twist of events if Levis gets drafted first and that Reddit rumour winds up being true all along.
